Happiness is here and now. It’s a state of mind. The content can be anything. Sometimes happiness is total silence with no worries on your mind. It can be a tight situation at work, something we break through together and get a feeling that what we do makes a difference. Or it can be a sudden life-threatening situation with adrenalin crystallising the present moment and making everything else fade away. Or witnessing your baby being born, looking at the eyes of a new human being and seeing the depth of the whole universe.
However, the most important element of happiness is this: happiness is a decision. The core of self-leadership is in controlling your mind, choosing your focus with awareness – both internally and externally. Facing the decision element leads to responsibility. Since I can choose what I perceive, feel, think, and become aware of in the here and now, only I an be responsible of my state of mind. If I’m anxious and unhappy, it’s my fault. If I feel peaceful and happy, it’s my merit. Undeniably both states of mind happen in relationship with other people, nevertheless I’m the one who’s fully responsible.
Which state of mind do you choose, here and now?
